If you want to use ink cartridges in your fountain pen, it will either require an international standard cartridge or a manufacturer-specific one. This is an important distinction -- international standard cartridges are interchangeable between brands, while manufacturer-specific cartridges will only fit pens from that same brand.

International Standard Cartridge Brands
These brands use the international standard fitting and their cartridges can be swapped between them:
- Caran d'Ache
- De Atramentis
- Diamine
- Faber-Castell
- J. Herbin
- Manuscript
- Kaweco -- most Kaweco models take short length only
- Pelikan -- available in long or short; check your pen's length
- Waterman -- available in long or short; check your pen's length
Brand-Specific Cartridge Brands
These brands use their own proprietary fitting. Their cartridges will only fit pens from the same brand:
